Boomers think they're getting the shaft

I got a kick out of the Washington Post analysis of a recent study released by the Pew Research Center. Basically, the Boomers say it's harder to get ahead than it was 10 years ago, and it's starting to bum them out. The analysis was definitely written by an Xer, which is probably why it made me giggle so much. Check it out for yourself and let me know what YOU think.

Hilarious. Tell them to get out of the way. The Xers are coming.

OMGosh. I love Monica's last line. "They see their pessimism as a tonic that will wake up the world, then they just end up drunk on disappointment."

Makes me think they drank the KoolAid and are wondering why the WORLD is so f***ed up!

nice observation SK

I find it interesting that the Post article says boomers are more likely to say their standard of living is lower than that of their parents. ??? WTF? My own parents refuse to think of themselves as boomers, (one born in 1945, the other in 1942, so one parent barely makes the definition date). My grandparents lived through the depression. My parents definitely have a higher standard of living than their own parents did. My siblings and I have the same or higher standard of living than our parents. I can't explain it, except perhaps it's called Work Ethic. You know, that thing that prompts people to get up and go to work and do a good job even when they don't want to. My parents' generation was the last one to have any kind of job security with the possibility of good benefits and pension. My generation wonders if there will be social security by the time we retire. We figure we'll hit 50 and be forced to retire or have to change jobs and be WalMart greeters until we hit 65. It seems to me that *some* boomers have grown overly accustomed to living beyond their means and now that they're older and having to live on a fixed income (and let me ask you, who doesn't live on a fixed income? My income never varies from week to week) it's time to whine because it costs more to go to Florida and eat out at Big Boy.
